Palmer Forness shares glimpses of family life, the 25 years he and Beulah raised a family of seven on their farm on All-Muddy, a creek near the Maple and Sheyenne Rivers, In his youth 65 years ago in a younger Fargo, ND, he shares memories of a rare Mischievous sons swinging over the creek on an old-fashioned "monkey swing," summer evenings spent rocking on the porch, daughters who loved horses and playing house in the old chicken coop, and more. Remembering his parents and his beloved grandfather, he muses matters of faith and life, great and small, contemplates issues that trouble him, and delights in warm spring days when birds return north at last. He cherished memories of his childhood years growing up in Fargo, graduating from Oak Grove in 1947. Palmer worked with his dad at the Fargo Clinic, Service Drug on Broadway as a soda jerk and the Bergseth Fish Company until being drafted and serving in the Army during the Korean War. After 26 years at the Fire Department Palmer retired, worked with the Fargo Youth Commission, and developed a youth runaway program. He was a member of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church where he led Boy Scouts, taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, confirmation, and Bible studies, was part of the conception of Bonanzaville USA, and enjoyed preservation of history, conservation efforts, nature, wildlife, birds and long walks in all seasons. He treasured portraying Santa Claus at West Acres for nearly ten years, and sharing the spirit of Christmas with children, and also had a Santa's Shop where he made many wooden trunks and toys. Palmer enjoyed reading and writing and wrote a number of books about his cherished memories growing up in Fargo, North Dakota. He also wrote a history of the Fargo Fire Department.
