Anya Ayoung-Chee hails from the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago, born in the very cosmopolitan city of Port-of-Spain, the only girl in a family of eight. From an early age she pursued classical ballet training. However it was during her attendance to an all girls secondary school that she discovered her true calling lay in art and design. She continued her education in London and New York, gaining experience in Graphic and Interior Design. In 2007 the Ayoung-Chee created the TallMan Foundations. The events leading to its creation were key in fostering Anya's passion for Youth Outreach and Support initiatives on the island; thus she dedicated her spare time to spearhead and support such programs. There was much controversy surrounding the withdrawal of Trinidad and Tobago from the 2007 Miss Universe Competition, (where they previously secured 2 successful wins in 1977 and 1998) due to lack of funding. The franchise holders were able to secure financial backing ensuring a presence at the competition in 2008. Anya was one of numerous young women who vied for the coveted title of Miss Trinidad and Tobago Universe.
