My Dear Sir, I have the pleasure to inform you that at the last board the question of your remuneration was brought before the Directors, and that it was unanimously resolved to increase the same from 500 to 600 a year, commencing from the 1st of September last. I am glad to inform you that the resolution was accompanied by many expressions on the part of the Directors of confidence in you and satisfaction at the result of your labours. Yours faithfully, (Signed) G. grove, Secretary. During the next season (1871-72), similar herculean labours were in store for Manns. The Beethoven Festival had proved so great an attraction that a Mendelssohn Commemoration on similar lines was planned.
