Description:"The Mentor" was a magazine that began with the founding of the Mentor Association in 1912 by David Moffat. In an early attempt at a 'think tank', this association was Moffat's attempt to bring together authorities on a variety of topics to make written contributions, lavishly illustrated, for the edification of the common man and woman. As he himself stated, the intent was "to acquire useful knowledge without effort, so that they may come easily and agreeably to know the world s great men and women, the great achievements, and the permanently interesting things in art, literature, science, history, nature and travel." Originally published as a weekly, it became a monthly magazine in 1919. Collectors covet individual issues pertaining to subjects of their interest, although many bound collections such as this year from 1917 to 1918 are sometimes found in antiquarian bookstores. From "The Story of Christmas" in the first Dec. issue, this bound collection has subsequent articles on Lafayette, American composers, Luxembourg, Julius Caesar, the Incas, Rodin, the Columbia River, coal, Benjamin Franklin, Forest Habitat, the Met, Philadelphia, National Parks, the Virgin Islands, modern fiction authors, the Mississippi, Dogs, Reclaiming the Desert, French War Heroes, Chinese Painting, and other topics. Heavy paper stock and lavish halftone photoengraved images made this magazine a popular source of world information. Today it provides a valuable view of topics at the time of WWI.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
