Description:This is a scan of the original publication from Swan Sonnenschein & Co., Lim.; 25 High Street, Bloomsbury, W.C. 1907. Includes nine illustrations and a map. Kessinger Publishing provides a catalog of "thousands of scarce and hard-to-find books." They added no new material. The scan is generally good with the exception of a couple of illustrations, but the old fashioned type can be hard on the eyes. From the foreword:"Some word of explanation should be offered for that rarity of references in the following pages which may be held to detract from their worth. The writer dares not claim for her book any value save that arising from the freshness of her subject. In the whole range of literature dealing with the later Roman Empire, there is no history of the Augusta Pulcheria apart from such incidental attention as she receives at the hands of modern historians and apart from brief notices in the old Chronicles and in fragments of lost works. The period in which she lived has, however, been much studied and in attempting to arrange an historical background whereby to throw into relief this shadowy Empress, the writer has been content to draw upon the common, obvious and well-accredited sources of information. It is because the pretensions of the book are modest that its pages are not strewn with references, and other evidences of original research. It has, in these respects been built upon the labors of historians like Tillemont, Finlay, Hefele and others. The object of the work has been not to contribute anything fresh to history, but to rescue the personality of Saint Pulcheria."We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
