All roads seem to lead to his nemesis, Jimmy Flynn, the millionaire drug dealer and pimp who started Harry on the path to recidivism when he turned him in to police as a youngster, but Flynn is only one of the dangerous characters Harry has to face. Women enter his life when he sets out to repair his relationship with his young daughter, Claire, and through her becomes reacquainted with Karen Bangura from his old neighborhood; there is also the beautiful legal secretary, Stephanie Reynolds, who invites him into her bed, and the enigmatic Mandy Wedlock who looks like a student but makes her living selling sex. Can all of them be trusted, though? Harry has more inner demons than most to contend with, but they are forgotten as he strives to unravel the mystery of the pattern that makes the Strangler kill. The tension is ratcheted ever upwards as Harry gropes his way through twists and turns, red herrings and dead ends towards his final realization of the truth, and the excitement mounts to fever pitch before he unmasks the murderer at last. Only when the crisis has passed does Harry realize that he has achieved his own rehabilitation, and made a life for himself that is free of crime.
