Description:This novel is based on the true story of a young Scot, William Buchanan, who immigrated to Nova Scotia in 1784, but after ten years of homesteading moved further inland to Upper Canada. There, in the wild forests that covered Essex County before the turn of the nineteenth century, fortune smiled on William. He met and married a United Empire Loyalist's daughter and settled into a happy family life. Sadly, that happiness was shattered when war with the United States threatened everything he had accomplished. So William took up arms against the invaders and was commissioned an officer in the militia and made commander of the Marine Company of the First Essex Regiment. In that capacity, he fought shoulder to shoulder with both Sir Isaac Brock and Chief Tecumseh.
