Description:Gorakshanath (also known as Gorakhnath) was an 11th to 12th century Nath Yogi. His teachings aare connected to Shaivism. There are varying records of the spiritual descent of Gorakshanath. All name Adinalh and Matsy-endranath as two teachers preceding him in the succession. Though one account lists five gurus preceding Adinath and another lists six teachers between Matsyendranath and Gorakshanath, current tradition has Adinath identified with Lord Shiva as the direct teacher of Matsyendranath, who was himself the direct teacher of Gorakshanath. Guru Goraksha is accepted as the incarnation (avatar) of lord Shiva, so he is regarded as 'inborn', immortal. Crake William, a western writer states that when the universe was being created, gum Gorakh Nath was deep in his tapasya behind a dhuni (eternal fire). The Lalitapur and Brhmanda Purans describe him as the siddha yogiraj living in perfect bliss in the world of the great winds called 'Mahadyuti' with divine yogi around him. In the 42nd chapter of the 'Kedar Khanda' part of the ' Skanda Puran', lord Shiva tells his spouse Parvati that Goraksha Nath lives in 'Gorakshya Ashram' which is recognised as one of the holiest places in his tapasya behind a dhuni (eternal fire).
