Description:John (Jack) Dennis is a writer, a filmmaker, a teacher of writing, and a futurist. He lives in Johnson, Vermont, with his wife Melanie. They have six children, thirteen grandchildren and, in California, four great-grandchildren. Jack has a Ph.D. in Communications and has taught every kind of writing and has worked professionally in each genre; he is a Mentor in the Western Connecticut State University MFA Professional & Creative Writing Program. In Chicago, Jack was Editorial Specialist for National Safety Council and speechwriter for its president Howard Pyle; Writer-Editor for Britannica’s Young Children’s Encyclopedia, and Writer-Editor for Compton Precyclopedia and authored its “Getting Ready to Read” pages. A two-year “Putting Your Life Together” Chicago Channel 19 television series he created, for and with inner-city youth, received a grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in 1991. Before he moved to Machias in 1995 to teach media studies at the University of Maine, Jack created and taught “Introduction to Applications for the Information Age – Lady MECATM.” This course charted new thinking and the future use of media, for the Arts, Entertainment & Media Management Department of Chicago’s Columbia College, where he also taught screenwriting.
