Hi-doh Hi-dee Ha-Ha

Tom Calarco
4.9/5 (17712 ratings)
Description:In 1995, I completed my fantasy novel, Hi-doh Hi-dee Ha-Ha. I sent it out to a few, established New York publishers, and one, Putnam, did show interest but eventually passed on it. I had read a few books on self-publishing and when a local publisher who I worked for as a feature writer offered to publish it, I thought, why not. I can do the marketing and get it out to the distributors and bookstores. Or so I thought. I never realized how difficult it is, how people will judge a book not on its merits but on your publisher. They never heard of mine, so how could my book be worth selling or reading.Being a local journalist, I was able to get reviewed by local reviewers and all were positive, some even admirable, but I had no luck with any of the respected journals, the ones for instance on which libraries base their purchases. Again, who had ever heard of my publisher – he published local magazines and promotional tabloids; he had never published a book. I did go to a few schools, and the kids at one school in particular loved it. I was invited there twice, once to the class that read it, and another time for a school assembly during which I and a colleague from Toastmasters did a performance. The principal told me that her office was next door to the class that read it and said she knew when their teacher was reading from it, because they were usually in an uproar.Yes, they liked Hi-doh Hi-dee Ha-Ha, for the same reason that I think it’s my best book, though I have had seven books published since then by established publishers. It’s whimsical, poetic, silly, and profound only in a way that the child in all of us can understand. But it is still almost unknown nearly 20 years later. Harry Potter became the rage and Hi-doh Hi-dee Ha-Ha is still waiting for its readers. So many people have said no to me about selling or carrying the book at a library, for instance, but none of them have actually read it. Oh, maybe a few pages, like the children’s book expert who was put off by the use of the word “fart” on the first page. In this day and age, the first word some children say is “fart.” Well, maybe not the first, but among the first words. In any case, it was used to evoke humor not bad taste. Now, nearly 20 years later, I am hoping that people will give this book a chance as one of the first reviewers said in 1997, because “it has the personality to attract a wide spectrum of admirers.” Or, as Yolanda, the yoyo bird, said in the book, “in the yanguage of yappiness, there is yoh such yord as yoh, there is only yes.” Say, yes, to Hi-doh Hi-dee Ha-Ha, and I promise you won’t be disappointed. To see reviews of the book, most which were written when the book was published, go to this web page: hidoh-hidee-haha.com Tom Calarco, September 2014We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
