The police suspect a witchcraft connection, but Iona realizes this isn’t so; the crimes are engineered to appear that way and photographs have been uploaded onto a foreign website which the authorities are unable to close down. For some reason, Iona’s personal details have also been broadcast on this site, threatening her meticulously guarded anonymity. Her only option is to track down the killers and terminate the site, but first she has to contend with Colonel Gideon, an evangelist in the American army. Gideon was medically discharged following a mental breakdown and has formed a religious sect who have been hunting witches in the United States.
