Frequently this has been done in cases where the classes of results have been far less influential than invention in the part played in the drama of the world's progress. It is to remedy this injustice that this work has been prepared. It will undertake to show how civilization has been influenced by invention, and how the latter has been the leader and not the follower of the former.
