In order that others may share in the gratification of your audience, the Association unanimously Solicits a copy for publication. It affords me no ordinary pleasure thus to prefer this request of th Alumni Association, and I hope that you will increase this pleasure by allowing me to report that you accede to the earnest wishes of your brethren. Washington, N. C., June 6, 1853. My Dear Sir: Your letter of the 3d instant, conveying to me the request of the Alumni Association, for a copy of the address delivered by me at their late annual meeting, for publication, has been received. In complying with the wish of the Association, I do so with some degree of reluctance, arising from an apprehension, that the favorable reception which it appears to have met with on its delivery, may fail to be sustained by a deliberate or critical examination.
