Description:Excerpt from Memorial Edition of Collected Works of W. J. Fox, Vol. 12: Reports of Miscellaneous Lectures at South-Place Chapel, Finsbury With this Twelfth Volume the Memorial Edition of Works by the late William Johnson Fox is brought to a close. In them the reader will find his best biography, and a noble monument of services - theological, political, literary, and social. A few facts of Mr. Fox's personal history are given at the end. The Editors had no materials at their disposal, out of which a formal record of his life could be composed; nor, if such materials had existed, could they have obtained the services of any one competent to work them up. This is the less to be regretted because the writings now offered to the public tell their own story of mental culture and moral characteristics. The Lectures not published during Mr. Fox's lifetime, but contained in this edition, are given partly from shorthand notes taken by a reporter engaged by a few members of the Finsbury congregation, and partly from similar reports which Samuel Courtauld, Esq. caused to be made at his own expense, and with Mr. Fox's concurrence, for several years. With the sanction of Mr. Fox's daughter, Mrs. Lee Bridell, Mr. Courtauld placed his Ms. reports in the hands of the Editors; and carefully made selections from them have supplied the materials for the "Miscellaneous Lectures" at the end of Vol. X., and for those in Vols. XL and XII. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
