Description:Excerpt from A Brief Historical Sketch of Wakefield Presbyterian Church and Sunday School: Germantown Avenue, Below Fisher's Lane, Philadelphia, 1856-1910 The object of this publication is to acquaint our good friends, especially the members of Wakefield Presbyterian Church and Sunday School, with the early history of their organization and its growth and progress through the fifty-four years of the life of the school and the thirty-seven years of that of the Church. A majority of our members and adherents having come to us within a few years past are not familiar with this history, and I have thought that not only these, but others who can call Wakefield their old church-home will be pleased to have the narrative in book form. It is well to look backward occasionally over the path we have trodden and retrace our steps that we may refresh our memories of matters and things that have been helpful to us and to others journeying with us, never tarrying long to brood over mistakes and failures, but always contemplating the better things, especially such as have blessed us spiritually. By this we may gather courage and strength to press cheerfully forward "unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
