Description:William Clarke was on the secretariat of the New Model Army, and specifically secretary to its democratic General Council, from the time when it first embarked upon its dramatic political role.Besides keeping copies of the letters written by Fairfax and Cromwell to their political masters, and copies of much internal correspondence between members of the army, he used a primitive shorthand to record the verbatim debates of the Council of Officers.Through his own transcripts we can hear the voices not only of officers but of private soldiers, spontaneously expressing themselves on questions of basic political principle as well as on the immediate choices of action that faced the army.The two volumes now reprinted contain among other debates the famous ones held at Putney and Whitehall, as well as much other material bearing upon the army's military and political activity.These papers were previously published in two separate volumes, in 1891 & 1894.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
