Description:In The Solid Rock I write about doubt, fear, perseverance, determination and the importance of truth-telling. I give opinions and methods by which people may make positive life changes and find a stronger footing in times of doubt. I highlight the common grounds on which folks stand at certain stages in their life and I write true stories as examples of tricky and uncomfortable surfaces (situations) to show when it might be time to move to steadier or higher ground. Stuff is a word I use regularly throughout The Solid Rock. I encourage readers to be honest about where they stand with their stuff. I ask them to give the reasons they stay in such uncomfortable places, and whether they're satisfied with the stability of the ground on which they stand. Let me tell you what I mean when I mention 'stuff.' Stuff is physical and metaphysical; it is the mental clutter in our heads and the physical clutter around us; it is relationships, good and bad; it is negativity, ours and others'; it is bad attitude, ours and others'; it is prejudice born of hurt, malice or belief system; it is 'baggage' from our past that we lug around in life. All of us carry similar yet unique 'stuff'. Part One is about my personal stuff. I show how My Stuff is not different from other people's stuff. All through The Solid Rock, readers will recognize references I make to my own stuff... this is my way of spotlighting the powerful influence our stuff has on us. Part Two, is about stuff that might be germane to most folks. Hence, I call Part Two: Your Stuff. I tell anecdotes to capture the essence of real emotions and I share these emotions using simple themes-love, happiness, fear, insecurity, anger, hate, jealousy-all of the mixed emotions that people deal with day to day. I review these emotions through personal reflections, always mindful that the stories I tell are rooted in everyday living. I honour the feelings that may surge to the forefront from folks even as they absorb the stories. Part Three, is about Our Stuff. I remind folks that all of us-you and I, deal with different versions of the same challenges. Here I show that Our Stuff goes beyond just My Stuff and Your Stuff. It involves the stuff of people we don't even know: other people's stuff that somehow morphs into our space and impacts our lives in a significant way. Here, again I tell stories of such challenges that put us on a guilt trip, feeling responsible for other people's stuff. I give examples of how our stuff intermingles with the stuff of others. I honor and respect the feelings of the folks who tell their stories; and readers who might share some of the same feelings. Many of you may raise an affirming hand in response to a statement or a passage in this book-take heart, I raised my hand first. Parts Four, and Five are about personal beliefs, spiritual practices and access to self-help resources. I give examples of negative self-talk, I exhort folks to identify such talk and quickly drive them away. Throughout The Solid Rock I mention Self. What is Self? Self, is the divine part of you and I. Self might be symbolised by a personal connection with Divine Spirit (God). It is that part of us that says "I am." The phrase "I am" should always be followed by: good, happy, healthy, loving and whole. Self is the "I am" that folks ought to explore. In conclusion, I challenge you, reader, to literally evaluate the ground on which you stand. I pose engaging questions for your benefit. I sincerely hope that as you work through the exercise, you will take a closer look at your stance on the stuff discussed in this book. I share some of my personal prayers in the final pages of The Solid Rock and I encourage you to begin journaling your own prayers.
