Description:An art book featuring the poems, paintings, collaborations, ceramics and bamboo art of Otagaki Rengetsu (1791-1875). Released by the Rengetsu Foundation Project in conjunction with an exhibition of her work at The Nomura Art Museum in Kyoto, Japan. Oversized horizontal format, 208 pages on fine, heavyweight, pearl-finished paper, with 122 illustrations in full color, extensive endnotes, a full biography and 33 episodes from the life of the nun. Nearly 130 poems are presented in Japanese, Romanized Japanese and our original English translations. We have uploaded a few sample pages below. Hardcover with fine traditional binding, published in a small edition of 1500 + 5 publisher's proofs. Featured in an article and interviews in the March 2014 issue of Kategahou, Japan's premier art & culture magazine. Proceeds from the book help to maintain a searchable poetry database of more than 900 of Rengetsu's poems and original English translation, and toward a visiting scholar's program we are establishing, which aims to add translations of the poems in additional languages, beginning with Italian, German and Spanish.
