The American Legion Weekly, Vol. 4 (Classic Reprint): September 8, 1922

Editors of The American Legion Magazine
4.9/5 (20805 ratings)
Description:Excerpt from The American Legion Weekly, Vol. 4: September 8, 1922 And shows: If we had the whole issue of the Weekly to ourselves, we couldn't find space to tell about half the shows that could be put on. There are dramas and farces, tragedies and comedies, musical comedies and non musical comedies. -even opera doesn't seem to be too pretentious for the-le gion. The business of putting on shows occupied a good part of last win ter's time for a good many, thousand Legion members. And hockey, and basketball, and dances - Gosh, you ought to see the number of dances. We found recorded in that file. We never knew there were that many different kinds in the world. Then, too, there were letters from post commanders about' banquets, and sugar-eats (that was Vermont), and lectures, and concerts, and a dozen other things, Well, we kind of glided over all these things, knowing that the average post is pretty familiar even with the fifty seven (or maybe it was. Twenty thou sand) varieties of dances. Until we came to a letter from Toledo, Ohio. In Toledo they evidently got through the usual winter program early and began looking around for new worlds to conquer. So they picked out a Boy Scout troop to work on. They worked well. That Scout troop went big this summer. From a decrepit organization of dissatisfied kids, it grew into one of the strongest troops in the State. We went on through the folder, and found that just organizing a Boy Scout troop isn't the only thing posts can do when they're through with their entertain ment schemes.
