Following his great grandfather's example, the next John sailed for America and lived the first winter in a cave on Rancocas Creek, near Lumberton, Burlington County, N. J. Haines port is named for this early pioneer. He was followed by his father and mother, Richard and Margaret, who sailed from Northamptonshire on 4 - 23 - 1682 on the ship Amity landing at Burlington with their five other children, Richard, William, Thomas, Mary and Joseph.
