Description:The Rise, Fall, & Rebirth Of The 'Emma Gees' is an article that was originally published in the Canadian Infantry Journal. It take the form of a Tactical Narrative in the tradition of The Defence of Duffer's Drift.Part one is a narrative history of the Canadian Machine Gun Corps. It first follows a new private joining a Machine Gun Team on the Western Front in August 1918. Through conversation he learns about the development of the Corps and what they have accomplished up to that point in the war and how the employment of machine gunners had developed. He is also introduced to a veteran NCO known as "The Old One" who was one of the originals in the Motor Machine Gun Brigade under Brutinel. The scene then shifts to Italy in February 1944 where a machine gun team from 11th Independent Machine Gun Company (Princess Louise Fusiliers) provides indirect fire on a German patrol with direction from an observation post.In Part two the author presents the roles, characteristics and principles of machine guns employment by way of a fictional battle between a Canadian Infantry Company and a fictional Soviet style enemy called the Fantasians. A replacement company commander is sent to take command of Company that has established a defensive position on a piece of vital ground. The first night on the position the new Company Commander has a dream that his position was completely overrun and hit Company is destroyed. He is then visited by the ghost of "The Old One" from Part One who explains to him that this is what will happen in the future as a result of him not properly employing his machine guns. The Old One the proceeds to educate him on the potential of his machine guns if properly employed, prompting him to rethink his defensive position. In rethinking his position he is assisted by a Sergeant who had just returned from his advanced Machine Gunners' Course. Together with "the old one" they get to work re-siting the defensive position to properly employ the machine guns firing on fixed lines in order to make maximum use of their potential. In doing this they address all the principles of machine gun employment which are as follows:- Mutual Support- Coordination of Fire- Interlocking Fire- Sited in Pairs- Sited in Defilade- Sited to produce Enfilade- Protection and Concealment- EconomyThe article is full of diagrams to illustrate these principles as well as an example of a machine gun matrix. The Article can be found online here:Part 1: http://regimentalrogue.com/emmagees/e...Part 2: http://regimentalrogue.com/emmagees/e...We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
