The Iron Horse

Unknown Author
4.9/5 (12038 ratings)
Description:This wonderful cover illustration is based on the movie poster. Illustrated with scenes from the Fox photoplay, starring George O'Brien and Madge Bellamy (with Charles Edward Bull as Abraham Lincoln), directed by the great John Ford. A foreword abut filmmaker William Fox, to whom Hill dedicated the novel, gives this more history-of-cinema significance than most Photoplays possess. This is an heroic epic tale of the railroad's push through the wild west, including war with the Cheyenne. The tale attempts to capture the film's "cast of thousands" grandeur. John Ford's interest in realism induced him to cast actual Indians, and the classic film provides glimpses of the real Chief White Spear as the Sioux chief, and Chief Big Tree as the Cheyenne chief. Ford required 3,000 railway workers, 1,000 Chinese, and 800 Pawnee, Sioux and Cheyenne extras! Not to mention 10,000 head of steer, 1,300 buffalo, and 2,800 horses. Edwin C. Hill was a significant newspaper reporter before and during the Great Depression, but this "novelization" is his only work of fiction, based on the script by Charles Kenyon (one of the great writers of pre-code Hollywood, active into the 1940s), John Russell (author of "The Pagan" 1929), and Charles Damton (longtime theater critic for the New York Evening World). We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
