The flexible, adaptable nature of indigenous African philosophies and religions made them an ideal underground repository for the memorialization of slave ancestors. Slaves epitomize the original sins of European colonial, African elites, and the four hundred-year triangular slave trade. European colonization and the so-called "gun/slave cycle" affected the entire world on a global scale with an intensity that continues today.
