The twenty-four men of the fire brigade who walked in the procession were in charge of Engineer Moulton. Mr. Superintendent Tozer was in Albertsquare before and during the opening ceremony, rendering active assistance. Generally, we may say the police arrangements were perfect and admirably carried out, and that excellent order was maintained. THE BANQUET. The banquet given by the mayor and corporation, in celebration of the opening, took place in the evening in the large public room of the Town Hall. The rguests, numbering nearly 400, were received by the mayor and mayoress in the reception-room. The Lord Chief Justice (Sir Alexander Cockburn), who was the guest of the mayor, was warmly welcomed, as was also Mr. John Bright, M.P., who entered the building accompanied by Sir E. W. Watkin, M.P., and other gentlemen. The Town Hall bells were rung as the guests assembled, and during dinner a selection of music was executed by Mr. Lawrence Goodwin's band, who occupied the orchestra. The organ was played by Mr. J. Kendrick Pyne, the cathedral organist. The following is a list of the guests: --The Lord Bishop of Manchester, Sir A. J. E. Cockburn, Lord Chief Justice of England; the Right Hon. Lord Tollemache, the Right Hon. Lord Winmarleigh, Mr. Justice Hawkins, the Right Hon. John Bright, M.P.; the Hon. A. Fulke Egerton, M.P.; Mr. E. Hardcastle, M.P.; Mr. Thomas W.
