In Remembrance of Brian Peterson: Blackpool Football Club 1956-57 / 1961-62

Gerry Wolstenholme
4.9/5 (23693 ratings)
Description:In the late 1940s through to 1960 Blackpool Football Club had their eye on South African football and the club was not averse to signing players from that country. Their first signing was their most successful as, in October 1949, they signed left winger Bill Perry. He went on to play over 400 games for the club and score 129 goals. He also made three appearances for England in which he scored two goals against Spain. Then the first of the Durban contingent arrived when Mervyn Vollmer was signed in October 1951 but he only made the junior teams before the club released him. Peter Hauser, another Johannesburg player like Perry, was signed in November 1955 and he gave the club good service in almost 100 games. And the final signing was also Durban-born in Des Horne. Blackpool signed him from Wolves for £15,000 in March 1961 and he went on to play almost 150 games for the club. In the midst of this, in October 1956 Blackpool were alerted to a ball-playing inside forward from Durban, they liked what they saw and Brian Peterson was signed - his brother Keith joined him at the club in January 1962. Brian went on to play over 100 games before he finally returned to his homeland. He made a nostalgic return in November 2007 to see the scene of his triumphs but sadly he died in September 2020 and this book pays tribute to him by looking back at his times at Bloomfield Road.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
