He persuaded British leaders to cease immoral supremacy over other nations. Marais predicted that the suffering caused by Imperialism would denigrate the Empire. He performed the first successful medical treatment by means of hypnosis in South Africa. He championed the second Afrikaanse Taalbeweging (language movement), establishing Afrikaans as a distinct language, and is also its most prolific contributor.
