In this book we find the seed of his Fascist Doctrine which he was subsequently to expound, and which led to the moral and political transformation of Italy.This book arises from his philosophical studies (a study of Herbert Spencer had impelled him to write a history of philosophy, the manuscript of which was destroyed in a fire). Mussolini's biographer signora Margherita Sarfatti writes, "Mussolini as an author shows to have assimilated with his calm philosophy the essence of the science that he had anatomized through an unprejudiced examination of Nietsche's writings. He is perhaps more apollonic than orgiastic....it seems that this is the only notable book written in Italian about the heretic forerunner of Luther...The author, a true Bohème, did not even care to keep a copy for himself. A stroke of the pen is for him like a sword thrust, a gratuitous pleasure of effort, of creation of conquest."We publish this book as a reverent homage to the Duce, to bring out the figure of a great writer who remains in the shadow of the statesman.
