He encouraged and donated money for libraries on the railroad lines so workers would have 'some place to go in the evenings and will not have to patronize saloons.' He supported the YMCA movement with its varied services for men and boys of meager means. And a large part of the book dealt with the subject especially dear to Baldwin-his work as a member of the board of Tuskegee and his relationship with Booker T.
