Kylie is the gateway into the fantastical war that occurs in the shadows of the night between the Valkyrie, like Kylie, and their bastard children, the Harpies. Kylie takes Christian to Valeria, the home of the Valkyrie, and introduces him to an assortment of other fantastical Valkyrie. One of the women is Helen, former Queen of Sparta and Princess of Troy. When word of Christian's lineage spreads around Valeria, Helen forces him to have sex with her so that she'll be able to bear child. This causes a great rift to form between him and Kylie. She doesn't know how to cope with the situation so she takes him back to Ann Arbor and cuts all ties. Utterly heartbroken, Christian quickly and unexpectedly finds a replacement for Kylie in the form of Victoria. Where Kylie was dark-haired, mysterious, and fantastical; Victoria is blonde, ambitious, and, most importantly, human -or- so he thinks. Christian spends the majority of his time with Victoria and, while they are attracted to each other physically, he's attracted to so much more than just her body. He falls in love with her. Even after she reveals that she's actually a Harpy, his love for her doesn't falter in the slightest. When the Valkyrie come in need of his aid, he turns them down until Kylie approaches him and admits that she's pregnant with his child. Shocked, he agrees to help the Valkyrie face the first of four Furies. This action pushes Victoria away and leaves her heartbroken and seeking revenge.
